The circular economy in housing does exist in second hand homes. Since homes are rarely designed to be subdivided the circular economy is too inefficient to increase supply in a timely manner to help the housing market follow the laws of supply and demand. An efficient circular economy in floor area does require an increased stock of connectable and sub-dividable homes. A wider use of this housing model for a circular economy can assist a realistic sufficiency-efficiency-renewable (SER) decarbonisation strategy to reach zero carbon by 2050.
